#15 Things I’m curious about
All the books, podcasts, articles and substacks that have kept me curious this week
Welcome to my new subscribers this month. I hope you will find something interesting and perhaps inspiring in all the things I have this week. This is where I share the books, articles, podcasts and of course substacks that have kept me curious.
Hello old friends, to those that join me week after. I love writing for you and sharing everything that has sparked my curiosity.
I’ve been saving this for you, slowly adding to it piece by piece for when you have time to be curious. There is nothing better than being amidst a 4 day weekend, the potential of time stretching before you. I hope you find something here that inspires you and if you do happen to be spending a few days in the Suffolk country side I have a few recommendations from a recent trip at the end.
I’ve been listening to these Podcasts
I’m really enjoying In Haste a Podcast linked to
in particular the episode with Oliver Burkeman - Why we don’t have enough time? And the episode with memoirist Amy Liptrot - Can your diary be a best sellerI’m still curious about leaving behind the traditional markers of success and enjoyed listening to Emma Gannon as a guest on Dr Alex Georges Podcast Stomp. A three episode exploration into how to Work Less Create More, The Success Myth, Questions to Ask Yourself Before Having Children,
Aging is somehting I’ve been reading a lot about lately. I loved this episode of The Shift with Sam Baker, she interviews Accidental Icon Lyn Slater who became a style influencer in her 60s and a published author in her 70s about writing a new narrative for aging
I’ve been reading these substacks…
That time I made a decision about my body about the decision to have one child and navigating other people opinions on the subject.
Some more reads for the TBR pile in The 8 new idea books to start spring
I’m reading these books…
In preparation for a trip to Japan later in the year I read Abroad In Japan: Ten Years In The Land of the Rising Sun by Chris Broad who started a popular YouTube channel to document his experience living, working, travelling and eating his way through Japan.
On my recent week in the Suffolk countryside (I’ve included some favourites from the trip at the bottom of this post) I read a Japanese book She and Her Cat by Makoto Shinkai I love books that have animal narrators and this is a beautiful one.
Enchantment by Katherine May a book dedicated to Reawakening wonder in an exhausted age and practicing focusing our attention.
I’m watching…
Slightly late to the party with Ted Lasso but loved the solid three seasons of feel good vibes
MAFS Australia, there’s something so relaxing about strangers navigating so much so I wrote about it here
We watched The Gentlemen on Netflix on our week off and although
A few days in Suffolk…
A few weeks ago we spent a few days in Suffolk in a cosy cabin at the edge of a field. We filled the days with food, wine and of course a book shop or two.
The best Katsu Chicken burger aptly names The Cat Sued The Chicken in the coolest 90’s decor at The George in Cavendish
We enjoyed a rainy Tuesday afternoon wine tasting at Giffords Hall Vineyard and walked away with a juicy red and a bottle of Rose for warmer days
And now for the bookshops. I stumbled upon Caxton Books during a day at the seaside in Frinton on Sea and I made a point of visiting Harris and Harris Books in the beautiful village of Clare.
